We all know that, even when the weather is not bad around here, our roadways can be dangerous. It is just a fact of life that when we get behind the wheel, we are doing, perhaps, the most dangerous activity we regularly do in our lives. Unfortunately, this was once again demonstrated in a recent fatal motor vehicle accident in Riga Township.
Two others injured
According to the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office, a 35-year-old Adrian woman was killed in a auto accident that also injured two others. The collision happened just before rush hour started in the Riga Township intersection of Mulberry Road and Silberhorn Highway. This is about a mile from the Michigan-Ohio state line. According to LCSO, the allegedly negligent driver failed to stop at a stop sign on Silberhorn Highway. He then collided with another vehicle’s passenger side.
This killed the Adrian woman as she was in that passenger seat. The two other drivers were injured, but only suffered minor injuries. The Lenawee County Accident Investigation Team, among a few other law enforcement agencies, are still investigating the car accident, and the driver that blew through the stop sign has not yet been charged.
What to do if a negligent driver is not charged?
Frankly, the wheels of justice are slow and, sometimes, unmoving. This is why the families of fatal car accident victims should not wait for the criminal justice system to get their justice. Through a Plymouth, Michigan, wrongful death lawsuit victims’ families can sue the negligent driver for their actions. Of course, this will not result in that person’s death, but it will hold them financially responsible and help the family get back on their feet. It will not bring back a loved one, but it can bring some semblance of justice.
