Distracted and aggressive driving a problem in school zones

Distracted drivers can cause both car accidents and pedestrian accidents. Michigan ranks forty-seventh of the fifty states when it comes to distracted driving in school zones. Although Michigan falls near the bottom with regard to overall distracted driving in school zones, a recent report reveals that Michigan is the worst state when it comes to distracted phone use and aggressive acceleration near school zones.

In Michigan, several counties, including Oakland, Macomb, and Ottawa County, were ranked the worst when it comes to distracted driving in school zones. Increased awareness of the dangers of distracted driving and increased police enforcement may be able to help reduce the amount of distracted driving in school zones, but the truth of the matter is that distracted driving is a danger that will continue to affect pedestrians and others on the roadways for the foreseeable future.

When a distracted driver causes an injurious accident, victims may suffer a variety of damages, including physical, financial, and emotional losses. Victims may be able to seek help with recovering the medical expenses, lost wages, and the emotional damages suffered in a distracted driving-related car accident by pursuing a personal injury lawsuit.

Victims of a distracted driving may be able to hold the distracted driver who harmed them accountable for their negligence and recover compensation for the damages they have suffered. It is thus often beneficial for victims and their families to be familiar with the legal protections and options available to them, as this knowledge could be critical to building a strong case against a negligent driver. Those who would like more information about how to build such a case should consider contacting an attorney of their choosing.
